Earlier this week I had a great time shooting another slot for the Australian kids TV Show Totally Wild  (Channel 10 8:00AM Week days). I really enjoy working with the Totally Wild team as I always find them to be a truely friendly, professional team who clearly  love animals.

The host of the segment was Sean who did a fantastic job, but the real star was a beautiful black lab called Nero.

The episode we filmed today was on Pet First Aid and it was a great chance to remind kids (and mums and dads) of a few simple does and don’ts when it comes to first aid for dogs and cats.

Some simple things include:

  • Have a pet first aid kit and pet first aid manual on hand at home
  • Keep dogs and cats away from power leads and household poisons
  • Some cats love the clothes drier so beware
  • Pets and traffic don’t mix – proper fences save lives
  • Never leave pets in hot cars
I can't emphasis enough how important it is to have a good Pet First Aid Guide on hand at home to help you deal with pet emergencies. We recommend the First Aid for Pets Booklet produced by Greencross Vets because it's written for Australian conditions, is reasonably priced ($7.90 online) and easy to use, but there are a number of good ones around.

For more useful pet first aid tips, make sure you catch the episode on Totally Wild. The segment will go to air later in the year, and we’ll be sure to let everyone know as soon as we have the date.
