Would You Name a Working Dog after a Breafast Cereal?

Whether you name your dog  "AJ" or"Zyta"  or one of the thousands of dog names in between, naming your dog can be a real challenge. 

Just ask my father who allowed his then 3 year old grand-daughter to name his new kelpie pup.

Lets just say I think "Coco Pops" had his work cut out convincing the other working dogs on the farm to take him seriously!

Pfizer, the makers of Revolution for Cats and Dogs, recently revealed the 5 Top Australian Dog Names according to a survey of over 25,000 Australian dog owners and also gave some useful suggestions to help you when it comes time to pick a dog name:

• Try to choose a dog name that is easy for your pet to recognise
• One and two syllable names make learning the name easier for your dog (and young kids)
• Dog names which sound like commands are best avoided eg. "Joe" sounds like ‘NO’
• Read up on the ethnicity of the breed - choose a name from that region
• Consider giving a puppy a name that relates to a physical attribute it has
• Take in to account all family members opinions when naming your puppy
   

Of course, most of us think that our own dog's name is the best, but for those who want to know, according to the Pfizer Animal Health survey, the most popular dog names in Australia are:

• Bella
• Max
• Molly
• Charlie
• Buddy
